The Virtues Reading group
6th February - 6th March 2026
This reading group is an opportunity to think interdisciplinarily and creatively about our academic work in an informal discussion setting. This term we focus on the theme of virtues using a newly developed study resource based on work by Professor Jennifer Herdt and other world leading academics and produced by the Global Faculty Initiative in collaboration with the Oxford Pastorate.
Over three lunches we will explore the place of virtues in academia and scholarship and the role virtues might play in shaping knowledge across many different fields. We'll think together about what role virtues might play in our own lives and work.
Meetings (all 12.30-1.30pm) at the University Club:
- Friday 6th Feb (3rd week)
- Friday 20th Feb (5th week)
- Friday 6th Mar (7th week)
There will be short readings provided ahead of each meeting as well as further recommended resources for follow-up later.
