Christian Leadership and Service Conference 2018

10:00am-4:00pm, Saturday 26th May 2018

Christian Leadership and Service Conference 2018

10am – 4pm, Saturday 26 May 2018, Somerville College, Oxford

As followers of Jesus of Nazareth who gave himself as a ransom for many, we know that the call to follow Christ is not only a call to an abundant life but also to a life of sacrifice. This conference will address questions, such as: What does the sacrificial Christian life look like? Where, in today’s world, are the challenges which can only be confronted and overcome by living sacrificially? How are we called to respond to these challenges?

In the morning, we will hear from Dr Guido De Graaff who will introduce us to the life and thought of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, one of the heroes of sacrificial Christian living in the twentieth-century. After lunch, we will engage with practitioners who are actively addressing vital issues which might call for a sacrificial response: Revd Kate Seagrave, leader of the Community of St Frideswide, will focus on a Christian vision for life together; Dr Frank Curry, creator of www.bottomtwenty.org, will challenge us to consider our response to global poverty. There will also be time for corporate worship, prayer and discussion.

The conference fee includes lunch and refreshments and will be followed by a drinks reception, weather permitting the reception will be in the college gardens.

Places are limited and priority is given to current and prospective participants, as well as alumni, of the year-long, Christian Service and Leadership programme run by the Oxford Pastorate.
